Alex Klemmer
A co-founder of Spynergy, Alex rides outdoors and has always worked out, but was initially a little intimidated by indoor cycling. Since jumping headlong into it, she has never looked back. She now cycles four times a week, is totally hooked, and has reached a new level of fitness. Her classes are about music and energy….she loves finding new music and is constantly on the lookout. Snow Patrol, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gomez, Modest Mouse, Mat Kearney ….she always includes some classic familiar music…..U2, Counting Crows, Pretenders, Dave Matthews, Fleetwood Mac…..and likes to throw in some R and B… Joe Cocker, Marvin Gaye, Tina Turner. Classes are typically all-terrain rides, she likes to mix things up and move around the bike. Whether you are an avid cyclist or a beginner, you will find her classes challenging and motivating…come give it a shot!
Bill Pryor
Bill co-founded Spynergy with his sister Alex in February of 2005. An avid outdoor cyclist, he's been indoor cycling for 10 years and teaching for 5. Music is the absolute key to a great class....Bill's musical tastes are an eclectic mix of eras and genres. Think Rolling Stones and Van Morrison meet Beck and Moby meet The Cure and INXS. Dave Matthews and Nine Inch Nails meet U2 and the Temptations. Per Bill, “ a great class is like nothing else, it is an amazing combination of entertainment, exertion, meditation and exhilaration. He can't believe something this fun can actually be good for you. Bill has run several "all Grateful Dead" classes....don't worry, they are pre-announced.
Judi Brady
Judi is a Needham mom that views fitness, and especially indoor cycling, as a salvation. “My life long habit of athletics and competition led me to become an aerobics instructor and, eventually, an instructor.” She has also taught kick boxing, aerobics, step, body shaping, and yoga. As for Music, her current play list has Rihanna, U2, Green Day, Boz Scaggs, Pink, Paul Simon, John Mellencamp and the Indigo Girls. She describes her taste as “anything with a beat”. Her motivation: to relieve stress and boost energy (to keep up with four active kids). Oh, yes, and to age gracefully (or at least try). Judi has been with Spynergy since the day we opened in 2005, come try a class with her great energy and spirit!
Harry Carey
Harry “Spin Daddy™” Carey, an attorney, is a fitness enthusiast who started spinning as a form of rehab and therapy following total knee replacement surgery in 2004. A year later Harry was diagnosed with and treated for cancer and a year after that, Harry completed his first Pan Mass Challenge. He has been riding ever since – literally!!! Now a dedicated cyclist, His style is best characterized as total energy. His music is universal. Recent playlists have included Springsteen, Linkin Park, U2, Foo Fighters, Thin Lizzy, Santana, Billy Joel, Rusted Root, EmmyLou Harris, Fleetwood Mac, and Marvin Gaye. Oh, and don’t forget Tina Turner. Most classes include a segment in the back half known as Harry’s Hills: an extended climb that utilizes all muscle groups. The “last working song” as Harry likes to announce is where it all comes together: form, peddle stroke, breathing, position and cadence. Harry’s teaching philosophy is simple: “I want you to come back because you want to, not because you have to.” You’ve got to see this guy.
Elena DeGirolamo
Per Elena, “I just love it when class members tell me their kids think they’re cool because they cycle to songs they listen to”. Elena has been teaching various group exercise classes for over 20 years (we assume she started teaching at age 9). She has been a group exercise director for various Boston based health clubs as well as a fitness consultant and trainer. Favorite type of music: 80's, 90's and today! Great energy, great passion, great teacher.
Mandy Hoar
I got into spinning after an achilles injury forced me off of the road from my favorite hobby-running outdoors with a walkman in hand....spinning is only workout which gave me the same sense of a runner's "high", motivated by great music and just plain fun. For me it is all about the music....You should lose yourself in the song so you virtually feel like you are dancing on the bike! I have loved making playlists and finally decided to teach when my girls starting flying the coop for college. I love new music (mostly found on my 3 girl's playlists) as well as oldies but goodies like Bruce Springsteen and Aretha Franklin. My recent playlist included One Republic, Florence and the Machine, Taio Cruz, and Muse along with Bruce, Creedence Clearwater, Matchbox Twenty, the Killers and Tina Turner. We ride to the beat, using the chorus for lots of interval training at various loads. We make it a family affair to find great music-but my happiest days are when I find a new great song before my girls do and I get to introduce it to them instead of the other way around!
Fred Jordan
One of Spynergy’s first instructors, Fred is known for “theme” oriented classes. Recent sets have included “Anatomy”, “Rocks and Stones”, “Sex, Drugs, and Rock&Roll”, “Acts of Defiance” and “Women With Attitude. A father, a singer (yes, he sings, but rarely in spin class) and a 3rd grade teacher, Fred brings amazing energy and humor to his unique classes. Per Fred, “Great music cures just about everything”. His classes are awesome.
Tracy Murphy
Of all the various exercise programs I have participated in throughout my life, spinning has rewarded me with the most challenging cardio workout and all while listening to great music. I have been a student of spin classes for more than a decade so it is a tremendous thrill for me to have the opportunity to teach. My goal as a teacher is to translate my enthusiasm for spin into a demanding and totally enjoyable workout. The music supplies an energizing boost for me. I like to use different music to navigate the challenges of an all terrain ride. I enjoy all types of music so I mix up the playlist to incorporate the top 40’s of today and the top 40’s from the past 20 years. I must admit, I also love a little country. As long as the music motivates, I like it. Looking forward to a ride with you!
Melissa Panchuck
A teacher, a coach, an athlete ---- Melissa also loves a tremendous variety of music that she brings to her creative spin classes. Fitness has always been important in her life; she captained her Division I college softball team and currently plays team sports as often as possible. She's been competing in triathlons since 2004 and credits her off-season indoor cycling sessions with her recent AG wins and all time best finish this summer. She got hooked on indoor cycling years ago and is thrilled to be leading classes where participants work as a team in pursuit of improved fitness. Melissa believes in the power of sweat; it is a great equalizer. Sweat develops camaraderie and helps teach us more about our bodies’ capabilities. So whether you are a beginner, seasoned rider, or somewhere in between, expect a challenging workout, energizing music, and a motivating teacher that will bring out your best each class.
Andy Schiller
Andy notes that the best classes have music you love, motivation to work at your best, clear direction, and a structure that flows from the beginning to the end. He tries to get people in the moment and to understand their potential for effort and recovery. Andy is an avid outdoor cyclist (Crack 'o Dawn rider) who likes to complete 4 “centuries” each season. An indoor cyclist for over 8 years, he likes classic rock: Fleetwood Mac, Stones, Who, Springsteen, Eagles , Clapton, Van Morrison and also some current music: Dave Matthews, Guster, John Mayer and David Grey. He has over 8000 songs on his computer……..There is always a long hill climb in his class. Give him a try, he’s great!
Maddy Shaw-Moran
Maddy uses her outdoor riding background to deliver classes with wild energy! She has been indoory cycling since 1993 teaching since 1998 at a variety of clubs. She fell in love with it when she had 3 children within 15 months and needed an indoor endorphin high! She is a 2 time Ironman finisher (swim, bike, run) in 2005 and 2006. Other cycling exploits include riding (and competing) on a stage route from the Tour de France. Maddy’s classes are designed to work for all levels, and to have fun pushing ourselves! Musical choices are a broad mix including The Clash, New Order, Killers, Nine Inch Nails, Muse, Gorillaz, Prince, Dropkick Murphys, Erasure, Depeche Mode and more. She has 3 teenagers (Yikes!) and a husband Mike who logged 10,000 miles on his bike in 2007. Wow.
Renu Shukla
A few years back, Renu walked into her very first indoor cycling class and recalls “the workout was like no other…it was inspiring and motivating, tantalizing and exhilarating and best of all it provided results over time.” Passionate about music, she relies heavily on a crisp music selection to sync her highly energetic cycling profiles. From Coldplay, Madonna and Creed to Alanis Morisette, African Pop and Bollywood Mixes, her class offers awesome musical diversity! You are sure to find something that resonates with you. With Renu’s training in Yoga, her class also offers mind/body elements that help sustain even the most strenuous of drills. Her classes are outstanding.
